We’re still gushing about how we love Squarespace for small businesses, and how exciting it is to be adding it to the vast list of web services we already provide. (Spoiler alert: we’re not going to shut our traps about it anytime soon.) So, if you’re a small business that’s ready to build their first website or rebuild an outdated site on an easy-to-use platform – a more-than-affordable price – we need to sit down and have a heart to heart.
After speaking to many of our own family and friends, our small business owner cohorts either don’t need or don’t have the budget for a unique, highly customized website. Sometimes all that’s needed single or less than 10-page website that’s clean, attractive and displays all necessary information a prospective customer wants to know about your business.
In order to be able to offer our mad skills at a price that makes sense for mom-and-pop or fledging operations, we’ve joined the Squarespace Circle.
And now we’re going to share a few reasons we’re stoked on their services.
1. 20+ Responsive and Mobile Friendly Designs
Any web developer worth a toot will tell you one of the most time-consuming tasks they face is when working with responsive design (that’s anything that has to do with making your website look great on everything from an iPhone to a laptop to a Chromebook.) Squarespace has over 20+ templates that render beautifully across devices so this is one less thing we have to allocate time to.
2. Easy to Update
The Squarespace platform is an easy, straightforward content management system, even for novices. So once we build the site and you’re ready to take the helm, we’ll be able to offer you some training on how to do everything from adding and updating content, images, and pages to how to tweak the elements in the design.
3. All in One Solution
Squarespace makes sense for a small business, especially if you’re looking for an all-in-one web solution that covers your hosting, domain registration, email, website and even basic analytics. We can’t rave about this enough to all our friends and family that wanted an entry level one-stop-shop.
While just about anyone can take the time to learn how to build out a site using this intuitive platform, the learning curve varies depending on how comfortable you are with computers. For the average user, fully mastering the drag and drop functionality could take days, or even weeks (especially with dealing with responsive design on smartphones and tablets) plus we definitely recommend a basic understanding of HTML to get the most of your site, which is why you should leave the designing to pros. Squarespace is like putty in the hands of Team Rica.
4. Basic eCommerce Solution
If you’re a small business looking to sell unique or handmade items, Squarespace does offer some ecommerce packages and includes an SSL certificate—a necessity for web commerce. Another scenario where Squarespace might be the best option is if you’re looking to dip your toes into online sales and test the waters, this is a cost-effective solution. Keep in mind though if you opt for a different platform later, you will not be able to export your layout and content.
5. Style Guide
When it comes to web design, maintaining consistency is key. The look and feel of the website greatly contribute to how users interact and behave on your website. Our seasoned web designers love how the Style Editor gives us convenient control over the fonts, headings, button colors, background images, banners and so much more. The Style Editor, when in the right hands, ensures uniformity is applied throughout your site, making its overall appearance smooth and cohesive.
